The medieval castle, a large 16th-century fortress that stands above Hvar Town was constructed by the Venetians, the ramparts are a great place to view Hvar Town's rooftops and its harbor. There is a fine collection of ancient amphorae found just offshore and a mysterious feeling dungeon. The walk up to the fortress is a nice but challenging trek during the day, but at night the climb can be treacherous because the trail up to the site are not lighted at night.

There is a splendid 15th-century monastery south of the center, where fun concerts are held every 2 days during the tourism season. There is a interesting museum with a collection of sacral art and a lovely garden with a view of the Mediterranean, Adriatic sea. Another church, Our Lady of Mercy, next to the monersary dates from the 15th century.

The Loggia and Clock Tower is a must see, an extraordinary example of Renaissance architecture. It was repaired, now a salon in the Hotel Palace, complete with a grand piano.
