  • Italian Riviera Vacations

The Italian Riviera is a narrow strip of coast in the region of Liguria in Northern Italy's most beautiful coastline. The Italian Riviera has breathtaking scenery, quaint little villages nestled beneath rugged cliffs in scenic coves on the crystal clear Mediterranean. Portofino is the most well know, frequented by celebrities and foreign tourists. Genoa, in the Italian Riviera is Italy's main port is a vibrant, exciting place with lots of cultural attractions to enjoy. There are more little villages that can be reached by a path connecting the Cinque Terre, the five incredibly beautiful coastal villages in the province of La Spezia in the Liguria region of Italy. Did you know that UNESCO has made the Cinque Terre a World Heritage Site. Cinque Terre and the surrounding area are now a National Park. The names of the five villages of the Cinque Terre are: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.

There are two places called riviera's in the Italian Riviera the Riviera di Levante on the east side of Genoa, which has interesting villages similar to Portofino, and Rapallo. This area is very rugged, extreemly beautiful with curving roads and elegant villas nestled in the cliffs above the coves. Most of the beaches are not sandy beaches, but pebbly in this region.

When you travel from Chiavari to Cavi di Lavanga you will experience less twisting roads and the beaches have a few sandy parts. You'll see some of the world's most extravagant yachts frequenting the tiny anchorages this coast.

The Riviera di Ponti runs all the way from Genoa to Ventimiglia which is near the boarder of France. Here you'll see a string of nice beach resorts that experience wonderful weather because they lay in the lee of the Ligurian and Maritime Alps. This part of the Italian Riviera is very popular because of the nice weather, great yachting and beautiful beaches.
