  • The Saronic Islands Vacations

The Argo-Saronic Islands: Spetses, Angistri, Aegina, Salamina, Poros, Hydra and the coastal area of Methana have a lot to offer to the visitors: natural beauty, clean sandy beaches and even small deserted islets to explore.

The Saronic islands are close to Athens, the capital of Greece and its port, Piraeus and are sprinkled between the prefecture of Attica and the eastern side of the Peloponnese. These beautiful islands serve as a wonderful base for trips to the more crowded destination of Athens, as they are all within about an hour or two by hydrofoil, also known as the Flying Dolphin.

Poros, only 45 minutes from Athens by way of the Flying Dolphin provides charming, calm beaches. It is a truly idyllic starting place for those wishing to do a bit of sightseeing in the capital city. Poros' beautiful landscape includes pine trees that cling to the rugged shores and enchanting nearby beaches.

Hydra, one of the more cosmopolitan of the Saronic islands, utilizes donkeys as its main source of transportation. Here, no cars are permitted, thus creating a peaceful, idyllic atmosphere that is completely traffic free. This island revolves around its main port, a tiny harbor surrounded by cafes and restaurants. A unique setting is created as the village of stone houses and villas encircle the harbor in an amphitheater-like manner. Hydra offers its visitors plenty to do with plenty of shops along the waterfront to explore.

The Saronic Islands also finds a treasure in the island of Spetses, where a wonderful selection of long, golden sandy beaches can be found, sandwiched between lush pine trees and the crystalline, turquoise waters. Spetses affords an active night life, where bars and night clubs are open all night long.

The Saronic Islands are a lovely contrast to the heavily populated, bustling capital of Athens. These islands serve as a wonderful retreat, where one can simply relax and enjoy each island's splendor.
